Latif wants to become party against ex-MPA in defamation case

PESHAWAR: PTI Chitral leader Abdul Latif has moved a court in Peshawar to become a party in a defamation case former reserved seat MPA Fouzia Bibi filed against Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2018.

Mr Latif has filed a plea in the additional district and sessions court in Peshawar where the defamation case is pending adjudication.

The Rs500 damages suit was filed by Ms Fouzia against Prime Minister Imran Khan after the latter accused her of horse trading and receiving money in the Senate election that year.

Mr Latif in his application to the court said he wanted to become a party against Ms Fouzia in the defamation case. In his application, he alleged that she had admitted to her that she did not cast one of her three votes for the PTI in the Senate election.

He said Ms Fouzia became a member of the KP assembly on the reserved seat of women on his recommendation as the PTI district Chitral president.

Mr Latif said when she returned to Chitral after being accused of selling her vote in the Senate election, he along with other party leaders met her at her house in Lower Chitral and inquired about the allegation.

In reply, Ms Fouzia told Mr Latif: “Pervez Khattak, Asad Qaiser and Shah Framan received 27 cror rupees [from party candidates for the Senate] and did not give a penny to us and that’s why I cast my two votes for the PTI candidate but refused to cast my one vote for the party.”

Mr Latif said: “As stated above, she is from the petitioner’s constituency which will ultimately affect him in either way, therefore he wants his name to be impleaded in the column of the defendant in the case.”
